Celebrating our coming of age with the new song “U ruci ti Grad”

Dubrovnik’s Klapa Kaše is marking 18 years of existence! On this occasion, ahead of the Feast of St Blaise, it is giving all the citizens of Dubrovnik a new song entitled “U ruci ti Grad”.

“The City in your hand, our centuries sing to you, banners wave around you, and the strong walls will not give you up“, say the lyrics of the new song dedicated to the patron saint of Dubrovnik. They were written by Slobodan Nano Vlašić. “With the song ‘U ruci ti Grad’ we wanted to congratulate the people of Dubrovnik on their most important day of the year – the Feast of St Blaise! The lyrics were written by our great friend, the legendary Dubrovnik journalist and musician Slobodan Nano Vlašić, and, almost unbelievably, it turned out that the song is being released on the very day the klapa was founded, on our 18th birthday“, said Vicko Dragojević, composer and leader of the klapa, also known to the public as an HRT journalist and presenter. Vicko wrote the music and arrangement of the new song, while the production, mixing and mastering are the work of Hrvoje Domazet.

Klapa Kaše was founded at the beginning of 2007 in Dubrovnik with the mission of preserving and nurturing the traditional multipart singing of the Dubrovnik region, faithfully passing on the singing of the Dubrovnik gentry and its rich musical heritage. They found the inspiration for their name in the Kaše breakwater, located in front of the old city harbour, which symbolically represents their role as guardians of musical tradition. Over their eighteen years of activity, through five albums, numerous awards and festival appearances, Klapa Kaše has continually confirmed its place as one of the most prominent promoters of Dubrovnik’s musical heritage.

With the new song the Dubrovnik klapa has deepened its unbreakable bond with Dubrovnik, the city that inspires them and to which they have dedicated this anniversary. “With this song we are opening the new year. There are already many plans and new songs, and we hope we will achieve them all. Of course, with the help of St Blaise, of whom the song itself says: ‘in every breath we take we are devoted to St Blaise’, the klapa adds, wishing that “U ruci ti Grad” will echo through the streets of Dubrovnik for a long, long time.
