New album on sale
Our new album Tragom Republike is on sale, in which, for the first time, songs of the Dubrovnik area have been gathered in one place, taken either from archives or from recordings more than 70 years old. This is a programme which has, perhaps even for the first time, shown what a musical treasure Croatia hides, especially in light of the fact that UNESCO has also protected klapa singing as a world speciality.
‘The album Tragom Republike, which was released by Scardona, is our identity card and our honour. We invested more than six years in creating this record, collecting materials, sound recordings, old maps and the necessary literature; all for a reason, in order to present to our target – the listener – a musical history of the south of Croatia, that is, of the former Republic of Dubrovnik’, said the klapa’s artistic director Vicko Dragojević.
The album (which is almost entirely made up of tunes that have been adapted and presented in this way for the first time) was recorded in the Monastery of St Vincent Ferrer in Župa Dubrovačka, dating from 1613, and it is also adorned with old texts by Dubrovnik poets, accompanied by ljerica and guitar. In this way, when the listener starts the record, they actually set off on a walk through Dubrovnik locations, from Konavle, Cavtat and Dubrovnik, all the way to Dubrovačko primorje, Pelješac or Lastovo.
