“Španjola” the best new composition at Omiš
Klapa Kaše won two awards at the Evening of New Compositions of the 54th Festival dalmatinskih klapa Omiš. They received the Plaque for the best performance of the composition “Španjola”. The same composition was declared the most successful, and its authors, composer Vicko Dragojević and lyricist Vedran Bonačić, won the Golden Plaque.
“The composition ‘Španjola’ seems to have fought for its own place on the klapa concert stage – for a long time I turned Vedran Bonačić’s brilliant lyrics over in notes, searching for the right measure. And I found it, by a twist of fate, just a few months before the ‘new Spanish flu’, that is, before the new pandemic. And I hope that our ‘Španjola’ will remain a reminder that every hardship passes, and the spirit of Dalmatia lives on in song and with song”, said the klapa’s artistic leader, Vicko Dragojević.
Eleven klapas performed twelve new compositions, and the winners were chosen by a jury made up of Rajmir Kraljević, Mirjana Siriščević, Ivana Tomić Ferić, Blaženko Juračić and Marijo Krnić. Owing to the small number of spectators as a result of compliance with epidemiological measures, the award for the most successful composition according to the audience vote was not presented.
For Kaše this is the jubilee tenth year of performing at the prestigious Festival dalmatinskih klapa Omiš, where they have so far won numerous awards and have also had an outright victory. Next week they return to Omiš, where they will perform at the final evening of male klapas.
